What is LiFi and how does it work?

LiFi whose full name is Light Fidelity. This is a high speed optical wireless technology. In this LiFi technology, Visible Light (light emanating from LED bulb) is used in digital information transmission.

As you know, this technology is similar to WiFi, however, there is a lot of difference between WiFi and LiFi. Both are similar because both share information wirelessly.

WiFi transmits data through Radio Waves, while LiFi, on the other hand, uses Visible Light Communication. This technology works with the light produced by the light bulb (LED).

LiFi Visible Light Communication is an optical communication technology. In which Visible Light Rays are used. The range of these rays is 400-800 Thz.

In this technology, due to data transfer through light, its speed is around 224 GBps. Which is about 1000 times more than wifi. Meaning, this technology is not available everywhere, otherwise you can download movies and videos within a few seconds by standing under an LED bulb.

Its advantage is that along with getting the internet service, there will never be darkness in your room because when you turn on the LiFi bulb, the light will come out and so will the internet.

History of LiFi

Now let us get some information about History of LiFi in Hindi. Prof. Harald Haas, he was from the University of Edinburgh, UK. Who is also called the Founder of LiFi Technology. He represented his invention in Tech Talk. Harald Haas is the co-founder of Pure LiFi. Only with whose thinking can we use LiFi Technology today in the future.

According to Harald Haas, if any information is sent through Visible Light Portion. So it is called Visible light communication (VLC). Harald Haas started a D-Light Project.

He devoted a lot of time to this project from 2010 to 2012 when he was at Edinburgh’s Institute. After spending a lot of time on this project.

LiFi Technology was demonstrated in front of people during TED Global Talk in 2011. After this people started knowing about this technology. At the same time, without wasting any time, a company was started whose name was PureLiFI which is still there.

PureLiFi’s earlier name was Pure VLC which was an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) company. To increase the business of Purelifi, the company started working on the existing LED Lighting.

In October 2011, this company and groups of industries formed LiFi Consortium. Both of them had the same objective to establish High Speed Wireless System.

To eliminate the limitations in radio waves. There were many companies which started making Uni-Directional VLC Product but it was quite different from Li-Fi.

In 2012, VLC technology was demonstrated with LiFi. This was proved in a demonstration in August 2013. In this, data transmission was happening with Single Color LED 1.6 Gbit/sec.

In a press release of September 2013 it was said that there is no need for Line of Sight in LiFi. In a report of October 2013, it was told that Chinese manufacturers are engaged in the development of LiFi kit.

In April 2014, Russian company Stins Coman developed a wireless network named BeamCaster. At present the data speed in this is about 1.25 gigabytes per second.

In future, the speed of LiFi is going to be 5 GB/sec. This was a short history of LiFi. Maybe you liked it. Let us now talk about its benefits and
About loss.

Advantages and Disadvantages of LiFi

Know about the advantages and disadvantages of LiFi. Everyone has advantages and disadvantages and so does this. Through this you can find out whether there is something special or not. Let’s get started.

LiFi के फायदे (Advantages)

Efficiency:

You must be aware that this technology is based on Visible Light Technology. As you know there are already LED bulbs in office and home. LED bulbs are good sources of light.

For this reason they can be used for data transmission. It is a very cheap and good source of energy. It is mandatory to turn on the LED bulb during data transmission.

If you are facing problems with light, you can reduce the brightness of the LED bulb and still use the Internet.

Availability :

Where there is light source there is internet. You can see light bulbs everywhere, such as in homes, offices, shops, malls and even planes. You have only one requirement to speak. You can use LiFi wherever there is lighting.

Security:

One advantage of this technology is security. As you know, light cannot pass through the wall. Similarly, the signal of LiFi is also LiFi secure because the signal does not travel from one room to another.

Disadvantages

  • You cannot access the Internet without light source. Every time you need to turn on the light.
  • It can be used inside one room only. Range is limited.
  • Being a light it cannot penetrate the wall. For this reason Internet is available at limited locations.
  • There is a possibility of interruption in Internet speed due to sunlight.
  • A separate network has to be created for a new LiFi connection.
  • This is quite expensive technology.

What new did you learn today?

It is always my endeavor to provide you correct, accurate and complete information. What should you learn today? What is LiFi and how does it work? However, this internet service has not arrived yet. There is a lot of future ahead, perhaps you can use the Internet wherever there is a street light on the road.
